Budget Travel Round Up: Six of the Best Blogs on Food

0

This month’s Budget Travel Round Up comes from Nichola West at Globalmouse Travels.

Globalmouse is more accurately described as a family of globalmice; five members of the West family travel around the world and off the beaten track. The result is a blog of reviews, features and tips on family travel. Here Nichola picks out six posts that caught her eye, and her appetite, as she roamed around the internet this month.

Six of the Best Blogs on Food

A big part of travelling for me is to taste authentic local food. It’s the perfect way to get to the heart of a country, region or city. From street food to fine dining you can learn a great deal from local dishes and have some wonderful conversations too.

Some of my favourite foodie memories are a trip to Valencia where we tracked down the home of paella, or eating cold noodles in Pyongyang and some fabulous regional curries across India. Eating and travelling go perfectly hand in hand.

So I’ve rounded up the posts that have made me want to pack my bags and my rumbling tum, and get travelling.

1. Mums Do Travel

I loved hearing about the food Gretta discovered on her street food tour of Palermo (although I’m not sure about the containers of snails!). It seems only fitting to try something with lemons in Sicily and the fresh lemon granita – the icy Southern Italian drink – looks so refreshing.

2. My Tan Feet

Somewhere high on my travel wish list is Taiwan and after reading Mytanfeet’s post on the best Taiwanese food you can’t miss I am convinced I would love it. As a vegetarian I absolutely love the look of the veggie hot pot, packed full of tofu, vegetables and noodles and the radish cakes have me really intrigued!

3. Mrs Aylas Adventures

I last visited Poland about 15 years ago and remember being served tripe soup and pizza with cucumber and peas on it – I wasn’t happy and hardly ate anything. The culinary scene seems to have changed beyond recognition from that and it was great to read Mrs Ayla’s Adventures feature on it with food that looks delicious and in really beautiful cafes and restaurants. The Oscypek in particular has caught my eye!

4. Bemused Backpacker

Back to Asia and why haven’t I been to Singapore yet?! Bemused Backpacker’s posts about this beautiful country always make me want to pack my bag and get on a plane and his Top 10 places to eat in Singapore is no exception. I am particularly taken with the steamed buns in Mama Panda Kitchen which are almost too cute to eat….almost! I would love to wander down Club Street and sample all of the street food

5. Cook Sip Go

After a trip to Spain last year and a lesson in Catalonian cooking I am really keen to explore more of the regional food of this country and I love Cook Sip Go’s post on exploring the cuisine of the Sierra de Cadiz. You can’t beat a delicious chunk of cheese and the queso payoyo looks divine. I love the sound of the rustic zopa too with chunks of bread being soaked into a mixture of olive oil, peppers and tomatoes.

6. Indiana Jo

And finally I need to squeeze in a little alcohol at the end! I adore Mexico and I’m rather partial to the odd cocktail so IndianaJo’s feature on ‘how to drink tequila like a Mexican’ really appeals! I don’t think I practised the technique enough on my last trip so I’ll have to try harder next time. It’s an amazingly informative post about what makes a good tequila and some very interesting facts about ‘the worm’ – I’m pleased to say I’ll be continuing to steer clear of the worms.

So You Know...

As you've likely heard and seen, there's an increasing focus on the authenticity of follower growth and engagement on social platforms across the Influencer Marketing community. The platforms themselves have taken measures to deter inauthentic activity and brands now more closely scrutinise the audiences of the influencers with whom they are partnering.

The Flea Network has implemented a system that will detect abnormal spikes in following and engagement, and flag these properties. Of course, such spikes can often be attributed to viral posts or high-profile brands that bring greater exposure to some content.

If one of your social accounts is flagged by our system without an obvious reason, we may reach out to you for assistance in understanding it. If we find any influencer has artificially inflated their audience size or engagement using paid acquisition or automated, third-party tools, we will remove them permanently from our influencer community.

Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with any questions or comments.

Thank you!
