Autumn sees the start of a new family travel initiative on Trips100. We are partnering with Lonely Planet Kids to bring you Family Travel Hour; – a weekly Family Travel Twitter Chat where you can have your say about life, the world and everything. Trips100 Commissioning Editor Kirstie Pelling explains more…
Hey you! Yes, you with the suitcases and the dreams. Fancy sharing those dreams with a community of like-minded people or getting a little help to turn them into reality? Then make a date to spend a regular hour with us for a quick fire debate on the delights, surprises, practicalities (and horrors?) of family travel.
A regular Tuesday escape
Lonely Planet Kids, Trips100 and leading family travel bloggers are teaming up to make Tuesday evenings all about travel.
But you don’t have to go further than your desk or sofa. Each Tuesday from 8-9pm we will be tackling a different theme relevant to families who love to explore the world together. From how to save money for that bucket list trip to the comedy of being a foreigner in a foreign land. From how to pack for a trip to Granny’s over the road to how to fly long haul; no subject is too big or small to be discussed in 140 characters or less.
We’ll drill down into some detail too. Need to know how to source a nappy in a rainforest or where to go for a child’s bicycle spoke up a mountain? We will put issues like this into the universe (via the Twitterverse) and see what comes back.
An experienced team
There will be questions. There will be answers. There will be a rolling team of moderators skilled at juggling children and maps; Imogen Hall from Lonely Planet Kids (@lpkids) Sally Whittle from Who’s the Mummy? (@swhittle) Gretta Schifano from Mums do Travel (@grettaschifano) me, Kirstie Pelling from the Family Adventure Project. (@familyonabike) and of course, Trips 100 @trips100. Between us we have kids aged from 1-18 and have had tantrums on every continent. Our kids have had the odd one too!
A new hashtag
The hashtag will be #familytravelhour. If you’d like to suggest ideas for themes we’d love to hear from you so drop any of us a tweet. Otherwise, put the little ones to bed early, get someone else to do the scout/ballet run, put the teenagers in charge of making dinner (good luck with that!) and join us.
Our first chat will be on Tuesday 6th October at 8pm where we invite you to think back to the summer (or start planning next year) by sharing your summer travel experiences: best moments, recommendations, what the kids liked the most etc.
See you on October 6th. Put it in your diary now…
