From the markets to the mega-cafes, Sydney has more than its fair share of hip hangouts. In this, the first of our 100 Destinations series from some of the UK’s top travel bloggers, Sydney travel blogger Jayne Gorman, from Girl Tweets World, brings you five of the coolest spots in this golden Australian city..

100 Destinations: Sydney

Bondi Markets

The Bondi Markets, found on the grounds of Bondi Beach Public School, were established in 1993 but the produce on sale today has a modern and fresh vibe. It¹s not uncommon to find stalls hosted by up-and-coming fashion and jewellery designers, as well as booksellers, candle-makers and the local florist. It can get a bit packed with tourists during the summer season but is a great place to wander and soak up the sea air and sunshine on a crisp winter¹s day.

Grounds Of Alexandria

The Grounds of Alexandria is the coolest mega-café in Sydney¹s Inner East. Occupying the grounds of an old pie factory, The Grounds of Alexandria is a coffee roaster, restaurant, café, market and petting zoo combined. The weekends see this place get particularly packed with families and foodies who come to sip the coffee, sample the freshly baked cakes and pet Kevin Bacon, the resident pig!

Coogee Pavilion

Coogee Pavilion is a fairly recent addition to the Coogee seafront parade. Managed by Merivale Group, who own many of Sydney¹s trendy dining and drinking spots, the Coogee Pavilion has a restaurant (with both seafood and pizza specialities), cocktail, coffee and juice bars, and a rooftop terrace with sweeping views of Coogee Beach. It¹s also a child-friendly venue with a nostalgic games arena complete with petanque, giant magnetic scrabble and ping pong.

Brewtown, Sydney

Brewtown Newtown

Newtown is a suburb in Sydney¹s Inner West known for its international cuisine and colourful street art. There¹s one place all those in the know go to for brunch though and that¹s Brewtown Newtown. Brewtown are famous in Sydney for a couple of things; their coffee, their brunch menu and their cronuts. Known as Œbrewnuts¹ the Brewtown Newtown cronuts are glazed, choc topped and cream filled doughnut and croissant hybrids that are just too good to describe. You must try one for yourself!

The ABC Pool, Sydney

ABC Pool

Tucked away in the corner of the Botanical Gardens is this little oasis. The ABC Pool is a gleamingly clean public pool where you can come for a swim, sunbathe or even just to dine in their trendy café whilst you take the harbour views in. Entry is just $6 per adult for the full day.
