Top UK Travel Blog March – The Luxury Columnist

Do you find yourself looking for inspiration for your travels as well as an engaging read? We think we can help. The amount of travel blogging talent out there has prompted us to introduce a Top UK travel blog of the month. Every few weeks we will focus on an expert blogger and ask them some questions about their blog, their travels and their advice for other bloggers. This month we’d like to introduce you to Suze the Luxury Columnist

What inspired you to start blogging?

I used to love writing in school and I wanted to share all the fun experiences  with others so blogging seemed like the perfect medium. It’s also been ideal for improving my photography skills and keeping up with social media.

What destination was your first “proper” blog review?

I wrote about the Luxury Columnist. I used to live in France and have a real fondness for its countryside. Bourges has a beautiful cathedral and in the Summer they have “Les Nuits Bleues de Bourges” where they project historical scenes onto the buildings at night. It’s also a great place to try out rail biking along a disused railway line!

Have you ever been anywhere you really didn’t like?

I try to do my research first to avoid that but I did go to one hotel that was quite badly lit and in need of a style refresh. As for destinations, I try to find the good points and I love featuring hidden gems.

Where’s the best meal you’ve ever eaten – what was it?

A tough one, but a recent favourite is Luxury Columnist. It definitely fits into the hidden gem category as most locals don’t even know about it. There are only 6 tables as it’s actually an oyster farm supplying the best restaurants on the French Riviera. The seafood is amongst the tastiest I’ve eaten – they feed the seabass sardines which gives them a unique flavour and you dine outside right next to the rocks.

What’s your favourite view in the world?

I have to say that when I come back from travelling, the view across the Thames over London’s bridges can’t be beaten. The panoramic vista from the gardens of Villa Cimbrone in Ravello on the Luxury Columnist comes pretty close.

Which other blogs do you love to read?

I always enjoy reading A Lady in London for her London tips, Kelsey Bang for the quirky photography and Luxury Columnist for helpful blogging advice.

What’s been the most popular post on your site?

My Luxury Columnist post continues to be popular. It’s certainly a place that I’d recommend visiting for the great restaurants and lovely views towards the Shard and the Thames.

What tips do you have for newer bloggers who would love to emulate your success?

I’d say to work on their photography and try to find their unique voice. When I started off, my writing was probably quite formal but I’ve tried to relax my tone a bit since! Reaching out to other bloggers is also worthwhile, there are lots of worldwide meet ups and Facebook groups where you’ll learn so much.
