Many bloggers have DSLR cameras but let’s be honest – sometimes just the thought of lugging your ‘big’ camera out with you is exhausting.
So today we’re sharing some tips on getting amazing images with the camera that’s probably in your pocket every day – without the complicated jargon!
Use ‘Burst Mode’
Your phone has lots of in-built useful features. One being the burst mode. Hold down the capture button to take photos in rapid succession and you won’t miss any of those action shots.
Change Your Focus Point
Try focusing on foregrounds, backgrounds or little details, and change your focus points for a different look. Don’t just take one shot of an item – take lots, and choose the best one to keep later.
Shoot in Black and White
Disappointed by the colour capture on a mobile? Use the in-phone editing to post process your images to black and white – or shoot your images in black and white – you might be surprised by how beautiful the images are.
Play with ‘Add on’ Lenses
You can pick up a cheap set of add on lenses for as little as £8. A fish eye, macro and wide angle lens can bring an extra dimension to your phone photography.
Access your camera from the Lock Screen
Do you always miss the perfect shot? Try accessing your camera from the lock screen to ‘quick capture’ the action. If you have an iPhone, swipe up from the bottom right corner of the screen and your camera is open in a fraction of a second.
Focus on Colour
It can sometimes be hard to find a new angle on a well-known destination or scene. Look at the world in a different way and take photographs of the most colourful details you can find.
Find People in Images
Add a new dimension to your images by focusing on people around you, maybe try your hand at street photography?
Or… Don’t Find People in Images
Sometimes removing people from the images can create a powerful effect. Try images that don’t involve people at all.
Play with Shapes
Look around you for shapes for a dramatic, abstract look. Sometimes my daughter acts as my ‘shape spotter’ – she loves being challenged to ‘find a square’!
Why only 9? Maybe you’ll suggest the 10th?

I have another one Sally – which is to not always worry about getting the perfect shot as so much can be done to correct colour, exposure etc after the event.
